Niko Medved contract: Colorado State basketball coach salary, where it ranks in Mountain West
Colorado State has signed men's basketball coach Niko Medved to a new contract that could go as long as through the 2030-31 season.

Niko Medved annual compensation
The contract is a five-year deal with two option years added at the end.
Here is a year-by-year breakdown for Medved's annual compensation, per the terms of the new deal:
2024-25: $1.7 million
2025-26: $1.75 million
2026-27: $1.8 million
2027-28: $1.85 million
2028-29: $1.9 million
2029-30 (option): $1.95 million
2030-31 (option): $2 million
Niko Medved buyout details
Per the terms of the extension, below are the buyout details:
By the university to remove Medved:
For cause: No financial liability.
Without just cause: The university pays 85% of the remaining contract value.
By Medved:
Without just cause (such as leaving for another job): Medved would ow 33% of the remaining contract value.
Where Niko Medved's contract ranks in Mountain West
Medved is believed to be the second-highest-paid coach in the Mountain West.
San Diego State's Brian Dutcher made $2.3 million last season, and that will rise to $2.7 million by the end of his contract in 2027-28.
Nevada's Steve Alford will make $1.3 million in 2024-25.
Other details
One other note in the Medved extension: $515,000 operating budget for the program added in 2024-25. For 2025-26, $375,000 added in operation budget.
The money to support the increase to men’s basketball operations will come from "fundraising, ticket sales and other program-generated revenues," according to a CSU news release.
