Nick Foles leaves Eagles game with chest injury
The Philadelphia Eagles advanced to the playoffs, even after losing quarterback Nick Foles to injury.
Foles left the field with a little more than 13 minutes remaining against the Washington Redskins with what the team described as a chest injury. He did not return to the game before the end of the Eagles’ 24-0 victory.
It appeared Foles was injured during a second-and-8 play that went down as a sack by Ryan Kerrigan. After the pocket collapsed quickly, Foles tried to step up and out of danger, but was wrapped up by Kerrigan and a couple of his teammates.
He stayed in for one more snap, a pass attempt on third-and-long, but shortly after walked back to the locker room without help.
Not long after the game ended, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that the Eagles believe Foles has bruised ribs.
Foles hit last week
It’s the second straight week Foles took a shot to the chest; last week, Houston Texans’ pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney drilled him just as Foles let go of a pass. That day, Foles only left the field for one play, though Clowney was flagged for roughing the passer, which helped set up Philadelphia’s game-winning field goal.
Nate Sudfeld came on for the Eagles after Foles exited on Sunday and threw a 22-yard touchdown to Nelson Agholor to put the Eagles up 24-0 with less than eight minutes to go in the game.
The 29-year-old is in line to receive a $1 million bonus if Philadelphia makes the playoffs and he played 33 percent of the offensive snaps for the season. He needed to play 67 snaps, but may have fallen just short based on when he left the game. The Eagles can still opt to pay the bonus.
