For just the second time in six games since 2007, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New England Patriots — and they did so in dominating fashion, handing Bill Belichick a 38-3 thrashing. Earlier Sunday, the reigning three-time AFC East champion Bills (2-1) dominated the Miami Dolphins 48-20 behind a huge day from Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and the offense. Bills vs. Dolphins highlights

The AFC East still belongs to the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes and ran for another, Stefon Diggs had three touchdown catches, and the Bills drowned the Dolphins 48-20 on Sunday. Both teams scored on their first two possessions of the game, but Buffalo outscored Miami 27-6 the rest of the game.

Running back James Cook added a touchdown run for the Bills, who are 3-1 and travel to London next week to meet the Jaguars.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was 25 of 35 for 282 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. But star receivers Tyreek Hill (three catches, 58 yards) and Jaylen Waddle (four catches, 46 yards) were kept in check. Miami was led by rookie running back De’Von Achane, who had 101 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the first half. Since Allen joined the Bills in 2018, the Dolphins have lost 10 of their last 12 games against Buffalo, including their playoff loss earlier this January. — Safid Deen

Now is not the time to declare the Buffalo Bills as destined to finally get over the hump this season and fulfill their promise for a Super Bowl mission. As much a 48-20 beatdown of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday might have provided a glimpse of that – Josh Allen was amazing, Stefon Diggs was incredible, Sean McDermott’s defense was spectacular – it’s way too early to predict what will happen in January and February. Yet it’s not too early to declare this: The Bills are still very much the kings of the AFC East. That was the takeaway statement attached to the complete and dominating victory that puts Buffalo (3-1) back at the top of the division the franchise has won for three years running.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen went 21 of 25 for 320 yards, four touchdowns and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. He also ran for a touchdown.

Stefon Diggs stats today

Bills receiver Stefon Diggs recorded the 34th 100-yard receiving game of his career, hauling in sex catches for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

Dak Prescott stats today

In the Cowboys’ 38-3 win over the Patriots, Prescott completed 28 of 34 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown and a 108.5 passer rating. Prescott was sacked three times.

Entering Sunday, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was 69-of-102 passing for 647 yards (215.7 per game) for three touchdowns, one pick and a 90.6 passer rating.

Mac Jones stats today

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had a brutal outing against the Cowboys, throwing two interceptions, including a 54-yard pick six, while completing just 12 or 21 passes for 150 yards. He was yanked from the game late in the third quarter, backup QB Bailey Zappe clocking in for fourth-quarter duty.

Entering Sunday, Jones was 81-of-125 passing for 748 yards, five touchdowns and two picks through three games.

On a third-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Cowboys running back Hunter Luepke punched it into the end zone to give Dallas a 38-3 lead over the Patriots with about 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys are now 1-4 from the red zone today and 4 of their last 15. It was Luepke's first career touchdown.

Deuce Vaughn, all 5 feet, 5 inches of him, realizes that at least one thing hasn’t changed as he tries to transition to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the doubts about his size. Vaughn, a sixth-round rookie from Kansas State, is challenged to survive in a forest where just about everybody towers above him.

“I’ve been doubted my whole life,” Vaughn, 21, told USA TODAY Sports following a recent training camp practice. “Coming out of high school, I had maybe three offers. Going to Kansas State, I was the ninth running back out of nine running backs on that depth chart. I was able to fight, claw and scratch, and wound up starting the second game of my career and play three years.”

Bailey Zappe, is the backup quarterback to Mac Jones, took over under center for the Patriots just before the end of the third quarter. Last year, he appeared in four games, including two starts, and completed 65 of 92 passes for 781 yards, five touchdowns and three picks.

Cowboys score again, but red zone struggles continue

After DeRon Bland's second pick of the game, the Dallas offense again couldn't find the end zone from the red zone, calling on Brandon Aubrey to attempt his third field goal of the game, which he made from 33 yards. The Cowboys are 0-3 in the red zone today and 3 for their last 14.

The field goal came after Jahlani Tavai sacked Dak Prescott on third-and-1 from the 6-yard line.

Cowboys' DeRon Bland gets interception No. 2

On the opening drive of the second half, the Patriots and quarterback Mac Jones went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Dallas 40-yard line, but the vibes continued to be bad for New England as cornerback DeRon Bland snared his second pick of the game and returned it 10 yards to the Dallas 48-yard line.

Patriots' Christian Gonzalez injury update

In the first quarter, Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez went into the injury tent on the sideline, holding his right arm. He went down after tackling Tony Pollard and will not return, the team citing a shoulder injury.

After Dante Fowler's strip-sack and Leighton Vander Esch's scoop-and-score, the Cowboys pulled off a fake PAT to convert a two-point attempt. Punter and holder Bryan Anger found defensive lineman Chauncey Golston for the score to give the Cowboys an 18-3 lead in the second quarter.

Chad Ryland field goal ties Patriots-Cowboys score

One series after the Cowboys failed to find the end zone from inside the 10-yard line, the Patriots followed suit. Quarterback Mac Jones drove the offense down to the Dallas 6-yard line but couldn't convert it into a touchdown, settling for a 29-yard field goal from Chad Ryland to tie the game at 3-3. It was an eight-play, 64-yard drive for the Patriots.

Demario Douglas reels in Mac Jones pass for huge gain

On the Patriots' fourth play of the game, quarterback Mac Jones scrambled and found Demario Douglas deep left for a 42-yard gain, setting up New England in the red zone at the Cowboys' 15-yard line.

Brandon Aubrey field goal gives Cowboys early lead

The Cowboys drove 70 yards in 10 plays, but couldn't get into the end zone and settled for a 23-yard field goal on their opening drive to take a 3-0 lead over the Patriots.

Dallas had a first-and-goal from the New England 3-yard line, but Dak Prescott had two straight incomplete passes and Tony Pollard was tackled for a loss on third down, setting up the field goal.

Cowboys open first half on offense

Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense opened their first series from their own 25-yard line and rattled off with three straight passing plays, completions of 7, 28 and 18 yards, to get to the New England 3-yard line in seven plays.

Stefon Diggs is an animal. He broke two tackles by Dolphins defenders and scored a 55-yard touchdown from Josh Allen to give the Bills a 28-14 lead with 2:58 left before the half. Diggs dodged a tackle by Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou. And when safety Brandon Jones came to help, Diggs got away from him, too.

Bills running back James Cook scored the 1-yard touchdown run with Allen’s help, and Buffalo leads 14-7 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.

The Dolphins responded to Buffalo’s game-opening touchdown with one of their own. Dolphins rookie running back De'Von Achane scored on a 3-yard run to tie the game 7-7 with 6:30 left in the first quarter. Two series, and touchdowns by both teams to start this AFC East showdown. The Dolphins’ drive was aided significantly by a catch from Jaylen Waddle, who came up with a tipped pass by Tua Tagovailoa after it was nearly intercepted, just before it hit the deck. — Safid Deen

Josh Allen led the Bills offense down the field, and found receiver Gabe Davis for an 18-yard touchdown on Buffalo’s first drive of the game against Miami. Allen was 4 of 4 for 45 yards, with each pass going to a different receiver. Allen’s touchdown pass was set up by an unnecessary roughness penalty by Dolphins defensive back Kader Kohou, who pushed Bills receiver Stefon Diggs out of bounds after a 17-yard completion. — Safid Deen

The Bills rank second in the league for scoring defense (11.7 points per game) while leading the NFL in interceptions (7), takeaways (9), lowest passer rating allowed (54) and pressure rate (50.6%). They are tied for second in the NFL for sacks (12) and third for passing yards allowed.

Plus, the Bills have defeated Miami seven consecutive times in Buffalo.

On paper, Buffalo stands a chance better than most.
