NFL betting: Joe Burrow emerges as most popular Super Bowl MVP pick

Joe Burrow is the most popular choice to win Super Bowl MVP among bettors.

According to BetMGM, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has received 18.5% of the bets and 30% of the money since the Super Bowl MVP odds were posted. Burrow is currently listed at +225 to win the award, trailing only Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford, the 13-year veteran playing in his first Super Bowl, is the betting favorite at +135. Stafford has received the fourth-most bets (12.6%) and the third-most money (13.5%).

Only nine times has the Super Bowl MVP gone to a defensive player, but there’s one in this matchup who has caught the eye of bettors. That player is Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Donald is listed at +1200 and has received 13.7% of the bets and 17.6% of the money.

That includes one bettor who wagered $7,500 on Donald when he was listed at +1600 to win Super Bowl MVP. If that comes to fruition, the bettor would win $120,000.

Behind the two quarterbacks and ahead of Donald in the odds is Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is listed at +600. Kupp, who has 25 catches for 386 yards and four touchdowns in the postseason, has received 13% of the bets and 11.3% of the money.

What are some other popular Super Bowl MVP bets?

Other players attracting significant action include Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase (+1600), Rams defensive end Von Miller (+5000), Rams receiver Odell Beckham (+2500) and Bengals kicker Evan McPherson (+10000).

Chase has received 10.8% of the bets and 7.5% of the money. Miller, who won Super Bowl MVP as a member of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, has received 6.2% of the bets and 3.7% of the money. Beckham, who has 19 catches for 236 yards and a TD in the playoffs, has received 5% of the bets and 3.5% of the money.

McPherson, meanwhile, is actually the third-biggest liability for the sportsbook at BetMGM, behind only Donald and Burrow. McPherson is 12-for-12 in the postseason and hit game-winning field goals in the divisional round victory over the Tennessee Titans and in the AFC championship game over the Kansas City Chiefs.

McPherson’s odds, now +10000, have slowly ticked up since opening at +50000. The rookie kicker has received 4.3% of the bets and 3.2% of the money at BetMGM.
