NFL 2022: Bills TE Dawson Knox agrees to four-year extension

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox agreed to a four-year extension with the team, the team announced Wednesday.

Knox's new contract is a four-year, $53.6 million deal with more than $31 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. That $13.6 million annual average salary ranks sixth in the NFL

Knox had a career season for the Bills in 2021. He caught 49 receptions for 587 yards and nine touchdowns. Knox's nine touchdowns tied with three other tight ends for most in the league at his position – Mark Andrews, Travis Kelce and Hunter Henry. Knox also caught two touchdowns in the Bills' 47-17 playoff win over the New England Patriots in the wild-card round.

The 25-year-old tight end played sparingly for the Bills during his first two seasons after being drafted in the third round in 2019 out of Ole Miss. Knox caught just 52 passes for 676 yards and five touchdowns in his first 27 games in Buffalo. But with the progression of Josh Allen and the overall improvement of the Bills as a whole, Knox became a staple of the offense and finished with the third-most receptions and second-most touchdowns despite missing two games in the middle of the season.

With Knox and Diggs locked up (the receiver signed a new four-year, $104 million deal in April) and third-year wideout Gabe Davis poise to make an ascent, the Bills are looking at a better postseason run than the one that ended in a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

The Bills are the current Super Bowl betting favorites at +600, according to BetMGM.
