NFL 2021 Franchise Tag window opens today

Starting today and going through the next two weeks, teams can ensure they don’t lose their best player by way of using the franchise tag. They will have until March 9 to do so.

What that means is over the next two weeks you will watch as many of your pie-in-the-sky hopes your team will sign one of the big names will be dashed when they are taken off the market.

In most cases, teams will first attempt to sign their players to long-term deals to avoid using the franchise tag. For that reason, it will be closer to the March 9 deadline that most of the players get the tag.

A few top pending free agents who you could see tagged include wide receiver talent Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, and Kenny Golladay. And when/if that happens, the once intriguing group will thin out considerably.

As for the Raiders, they aren’t expected to use the franchise tag this year.
