Vikings coach Frazier undecided on starting QB

Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he is undecided on who will start at quarterback this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, but it will not be Matt Cassel.

Frazier said Monday the starter will either be recently-acquired Josh Freeman or Christian Ponder, who started Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Cassel quarterbacked the 1-6 Vikings to their only win this season against the Pittsburgh Steelers in London on Sept. 29. He also started another game in place of Ponder, who was out with a rib injury.

Cassel completed 32 of 44 passes for 241 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in a 35-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 13 and has not played since.

"I don't want to discount Matt," Frazier said. "But Christian did some good things in that ballgame yesterday. There are some things he can obviously do better, but it has something to do with it. He has led us to some wins in the past.

Ponder completed 14 of 21 passes for only 145 yards against the Packers in place of Freeman, who was out with a concussion.

"Josh, we brought him here to evaluate him and determine if he could be a guy that could be a potential player for us in the future," Frazier said. "So, that's what goes into trying to evaluate the both of them."

Freeman signed a one-year, $2 million deal earlier this month.

Freeman completed 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards with an interception in last Monday's 23-7 loss to the New York Giants. He was injured some time during the game. He ran on Saturday for the first time without having concussion symptoms.
