UFC 199 Results: Dominick Cruz Dominates Urijah Faber in Decision Win

Dominick Cruz successfully defended his bantamweight title, beating Urijah Faber via unanimous decision in the co-main event at UFC 199 on Saturday in Inglewood, California.

Cruz outstruck Faber for all five rounds, leaving it in the hands of the judges for scores of 50-45, 50-45 and 49-46.

“Nothing surprising,” Cruz said of the fight, during his post-fight interview. “I'm just glad I'm here to compete again.”

The first round was scrappy with these two 135-pound fighters. Striking, grappling, trading blows with no sense of care for the opponent. Towards the end of the round, Cruz caught Faber with a combination that was capped off with a left hand.

Cruz opened up strong in the second round, landing a left hand that dropped Faber. Although Cruz pursued to the ground, Faber recovered and returned to the feet. Cruz worked the leg kicks with success and avoided much of Faber's offense.

After being stung a few times by Cruz punches, Faber was more reserved in the third round. Still, Cruz found his opportunities to land blows using his footwork and quickness to engage, strike and circle out of danger.

In the fourth, Cruz landed a solid left hand that dropped his opponent again. Faber covered up and Cruz started landing a flurry but backed off because none were landing flush. Faber was being walked down for a majority of the frame.

Faber turned up the offense in the final round, but it wasn't enough before time expired and Cruz was named the winner.

With the win on Saturday, Cruz improves his record to 22-1.
