UFC 159 Nick Catone vs. James Head Preliminary Bout Cancelled on Day of the Fight

Nick Catone Suffers Torn ACL in UFC 169 Split Decision Win

A UFC 159 preliminary bout between Nick Catone and James Head has been scratched on the day of the fight.

UFC officials announced the cancellation Saturday morning.

“Following a trip to the hospital for dehydration, Nick Catone has been scratched from his UFC 159 bout with James Head,” read a statement from the promotion.

Catone and Head were contracted to meet at welterweight. Catone, however, had trouble meeting the 171-pound allowance for the bout, weighing in on Friday at 173 pounds.

Head agreed to take the bout anyway, and Catone was fined 20-percent of his fight purse for no making the weight.

UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen will, of course, go on as scheduled at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. But with the cancellation, it will now feature 11 bouts instead of 12.

Catone vs. Head was one of the UFC 159 preliminary bouts set to stream live on the UFC’s Facebook page. The Facebook stream will now feature two fights: Leonard Garcia vs. Cody McKenzie and Steven Siler vs. Kurt Holobaugh.
