Rockies interview Manuel, Mackanin, Williams for manager job
The Colorado Rockies interviewed Jerry Manuel, Pete Mackanin and Matt Williams for their vacant managerial job, the Denver Post reported Sunday.
Manuel, 58, managed the Chicago White Sox from 1998-2003 and the New York Mets from 2008-10.
Mackanin, 61, was fired as the Philadelphia Phillies bench coach after the team finished 81-81 this season. He was an interim manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005 and the Cincinnati Reds in 2007.
Williams, 46, is currently the Arizona Diamondbacks' third-base coach. He played for the Diamondbacks' World Series championship team in 2001.
The Rockies also interviewed bench coach Tom Runnells, Rockies player Jason Giambi and former Rockies shortstop Walt Weiss since Jim Tracy resigned as manager Oct. 7.
Colorado is also interested in San Francisco Giants bench coach Ron Wotus. He will likely be interviewed after the World Series ends.
The Post also listed Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., San Diego Padres front-office special assistant Brad Ausmus, Oakland A's third base coach Mike Gallego and Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach as other possible candidates.
