As penance for past wrongs, Penn State must return all football team trophies awarded from 1998-2011.
The Nittany Lions won six bowl games in that span. As part of the NCAA sanctions against Penn State as a result of the findings of the Freeh Report investigation into the university inaction during the Jerry Sandusky criminal scandal, 112 wins were stricken from the program's record.
"Per the NCAA consent decree, all football team trophies won from 1998-2011 are to be returned to the awarding authority and we plan to do so," Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson said.
The NCAA imposed a $60 million fine, banned Penn State from the postseason for four years and capped scholarships 20 below the normal limit.
Late coach Joe Paterno lost 111 wins, which made former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden the winningest major-college coach with 377 wins. History will show Paterno had 298 victories.
