Mariners ace Hernandez skipping WBC

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez is skipping the World Baseball Classic, mainly because of his pending $175 million contract, CBS Sports reported Friday.

The seven-year extension for Hernandez is not official yet but the right-hander has reportedly decided to forego the WBC. The Mariners likely prefer that he not add any risks to his right arm by playing in the exhibition.

Hernandez is listed on Venezuela's provisional roster.
