Isaiah Crowell will donate first game check to Dallas police
Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell will pay a heavy price for a volatile Instagram pic.
Crowell will donate his first game check of the season to a Dallas police foundation in the wake of controversy over a graphic, violent Instagram image Crowell made last week. That photo, which Crowell posted and quickly deleted, showed a drawing of a hooded man slashing the throat of a police officer, in apparent protest to the police shootings of two African-American men in Louisiana and Minnesota. Crowell posted, and removed, the picture before the ambush of police officers in Dallas last weekend.
The image drew swift condemnation from both the NFL and the Browns, who called it “extremely disturbing,” “unacceptable,” and “completely inappropriate.” Crowell apologized via social media, but the Browns indicated that more restitution would be necessary. At least one police official threatened to pull police protection from FirstEnergy Stadium this fall if Crowell didn’t offer a sufficient apology.
Per Spotrac, Crowell is slated to earn $600,000 this year, the last under his rookie contract. That works out to $35,294 per week. Crowell told TMZ Sports he will donate the money to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation, which aids the families of officers who fall in the line of duty.
