High-School Comedy ‘Fack Ju Göhte 2’ Breaks German Box Office Record

LONDON — High-school comedy “Fack Ju Göhte 2,” the sequel‎ to the 2013 German box-office hit, has broken German box-office records for a local film’s opening weekend.

Bora Dagtekin’s movie, which stars Elyas M’Barek and Karoline Herfurth, attracted 2.1 million cinemagoers and earned a box-office gross of Euros 17.7 million ($20 million) over the weekend. This is the best opening in Germany for any film this year and the best German movie debut ever.

The first film, which had the international title “Suck Me Shakespeer,” grossed more than $75 million at the German-speaking box office, and went on to a successful international career with sales to more than 30 countries.

Part two reunites criminal-turned-teacher Zeki Mueller, played by M’Barek, and his colleague Lisi Schnabelstedt, played by Herfurth, with their chaotic students. Dagtekin is also the writer on the film. Lena Schoemann and Dagtekin are producing, and Martin Moszkowicz is executive producing for Constantin Film.

Picture Tree International is handling world sales on both movies.
