Eagles fans give Jason Peters a classy salute after his injury

Philadelphia fans are known for booing (we know the legend of them heckling Santa Claus) or cheering at the wrong time (Michael Irvin’s neck injury) but the rally around their own and they know football.

You won’t find fans chanting an offensive lineman’s name too often, but Eagles fans know what Jason Peters has meant to the franchise. Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle who might go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday, went down with a nasty looking leg injury in the third quarter of Monday night’s 34-24 victory against the Washington Redskins.

As the Eagles players flooded off the sideline to show respect to Peters after he was loaded on the cart, Eagles fans showed their respect too. They chanted Peters’ name as he was taken off. And it wasn’t just a few fans, it sounded like the whole stadium joined in. You won’t see that in every NFL city.

The sad part of the story is Peters is an incredible player and if the injury is as bad as it looked, it’s a huge loss for an Eagles team that has emerged as a Super Bowl contender as they sport the best record in the NFL at 6-1. The Eagles have mostly struggled on offense when right tackle Lane Johnson has missed games the past two seasons, and they might have trouble replacing a player as great as Peters.

We know this: Eagles fans certainly understand what kind of player Peters is. They showed that on Monday night.
