Eagles coach Reid plans to "tear things apart"
Things are getting tense for the Philadelphia Eagles, and coach Andy Reid said on Monday he plans to "tear things apart" during the bye week.
The Eagles are just 3-3, and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo has received growing criticism after allowing Seattle to score 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime in the Seahawks' 26-23 victory on Sunday.
Reid said on Monday Castillo will continue to make the defensive calls.
"As I'm standing here right now," Reid said at his press conference, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.
That's hardly a ringing endorsement, suggesting things may change if the Eagles defense falters again.
However, Reid disagreed with Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who accused Castillo of abandoning the coverage scheme and relying on the blitz in the fourth quarter to allow the Seattle comeback.
The Eagles offense has issues too. Philadelphia has committed 17 turnovers, the most in the NFL, and turned the ball over three times against Seattle. Reid called that "ridiculous."
The Eagles gained just six yards on their final possession of the fourth quarter and lost 21 yards on their only possession of overtime. Reid called that "pathetic."
Owner Jeffrey Lurie called 2011's 8-8 record "unacceptable" before the season began, which may be why Reid said he plans to "tear things apart" before the Eagles next game.
