Aggies on the search for linebackers

Texas A&M has been busy on the recruiting trail over the past several weeks, but their efforts Wednesday had a major theme: they were looking for 2018 linebackers.

Missouri City Ridge Point had its spring game Wednesday evening, and Aggie defensive coordinator John Chavis was in attendance with running backs coach and Houston-area recruiter Clarence McKinney. Chavis' likely subject of attention: middle linebacker Chad Bailey, who attended A&M's Friday Night Lights event this spring and remains on the radar.

Bailey, who has two SEC offers to date -- Ole Miss and Missouri -- told AggieYell.com in early April that the A&M coaching staff has been keeping tabs on him, but has been waiting to see how he progresses as an inside linebacker (he had played outside previously) before extending an offer. Chavis' presence last night indicates the Aggies remain interested in him.

The Aggies have Otaro Alaka and Tyrel Dodson to play the middle for the next two seasons, but depth remains an issue in the middle. Before Wednesday, Rivals.com listed the A&M with only two offers out to inside linebackers, and one was to Arkansas commit Bumper Pool.

The offer list grew to three on Wednesday, when the Aggies offered St. Louis Ritenour's Ayodele Adeyoe. Adeoye, a 4-star and members of the Rivals250, has stout offer list that includes Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and LSU. He's already put out a top 10 list (which, of course, is always subject to change), but it's clear the Aggies have their hands full if they're going to get anywhere with him.

The Aggies also made a move in the backyard of their permanent SEC East rival, offering Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley OLB Channing Tindall Wednesday.

Tindall is currently rated a three-star by Rivals.com, but his offer list is anything but average. Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia and Florida are just a few of his offers -- as is hometown South Carolina.

With Justin Dunning, Buddy Johnson, Anthony Hines, Dwaine Thomas and Santino Marchiol all around in 2018, A&M should have a respectable base of linebackers to work with on the outside. But depth remains a necessity, and A&M has made at least eight offers to OLBs. All but two, however -- Tindall and North Richland Hills' DaShaun White, who may be leaning A&M's way -- are committed.

Wednesday was a busy day on the linebacker front. Expect it to get busier before it's all said and done.
