Nate Robinson has been vocal for weeks about wanting to return to the NBA and has taken the next step in that pursuit.

Robinson on Thursday signed a contract with the NBA Development League, his agent, Herman Manakyan, told The Vertical.

Robinson will formally enter the D-League’s available player pool once his letter of clearance returns from Israel, where he played for Hapoel Tel Aviv last season. Oklahoma City, Erie, Texas, Fort Wayne and Grand Rapids hold the top priorities in the D-League waiver order.

Robinson, 32, has been adamant about attempting to return to the NBA and worked out for the Philadelphia 76ers in January. He appeared in two games for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2015-16, his last season in the NBA.

In 11 NBA seasons, Robinson averaged 11 points, three assists and 2.3 rebounds. Robinson created his niche in the league with his athletic ability and scoring prowess at 5-foot-9. He’s a three-time NBA dunk contest champion.

He was the No. 21 overall draft pick by the New York Knicks in 2005.
