Nets star Kevin Durant has looked into Sixers amid trade rumors

The saga surrounding superstar Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets continues on as training camp approaches in the NBA. The two-time finals MVP winner requested a trade out of Brooklyn on June 30, but the Nets have not yet fulfilled that request.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been mentioned in the Durant sweepstakes because he reportedly sees Philadelphia as a desirable landing spot. He has repaired his relationship with James Harden after the failed experiment in Brooklyn, and it appears the two are back on great terms after hanging out in London and working out in Barcelona.

A trade for Durant seems unlikely for the Sixers, however. Philadelphia does not have the draft compensation needed to satisfy Brooklyn. That hasn’t stopped Durant from looking into Philadelphia to see if anything can happen there.

Per The Ringer’s Bill Simmons on “The Bill Simmons Podcast”:

KD and Harden, this is what I heard, they don’t talk after the trade. They basically go radio silent on each other. They run into each other. They hang out all weekend. And by the end of the weekend, KD is sniffing around on Philly. And there’s a whole Philly thing that happens for three days where it’s like basically (Tobias) Harris and Tyrese Maxey and whatever pick and it’s just it’s not even close.

The biggest issue, as it has been throughout this whole process, has been draft compensation. It is going to take a lot of picks to get a deal done, and the Sixers do not have them considering they can’t trade a first-round pick until 2029. Durant may want Philadelphia, but it’s very unlikely at the moment.
