Nets signing former first-round pick Keon Johnson to two-way contract

The Nets have added some depth to their injury-plagued roster, signing shooting guard Keon Johnson to a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Johnson was the 21st overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of the University of Tennessee.

He split his first season with the Clippers and Trail Blazers, and appeared in a total of 37 games. The 21-year-old mainly came off the bench, making just 12 starts, and averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.

Johnson remained in Portland last season and appeared in 40 games. He landed in Phoenix earlier this offseason as part of the three-team deal that sent Deandre Ayton to the Blazers and Damian Lillard to the Bucks.

Johnson was waived at the end of the preseason as the Suns cut down their roster heading into opening night, making him a free agent.

He now joins the Nets, who have been decimated with injuries early on this season, with hopes of carving out a role for himself off the bench for Jacque Vaughn's squad.
