Nets’ Jacque Vaughn: current roster is an ‘interesting case study’

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has had an interesting tenure as the head man of the Nets. In a matter of months, he went from coaching a team led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to a team led by Mikal Bridges and Spencer Dinwiddie. However, instead of dwelling on how much the team has changed since Vaughn took over as the head coach on Nov. 1, Vaughn had an interesting take on the current roster.

“Yeah, it’s a interesting like case study on this one,” Vaughn said on Wednesday during his pregame media availability prior to facing the Houston Rockets. “I don’t think I’ve been a part of a team where you got four new guys and the four new guys are starters. And, I just think that is a different different atmosphere then I’ve been a part of.” Brooklyn has played 20 games with the full roster with having Bridges, Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Cam Johnson. In those games, the Nets have a 7-13 record despite being fairly competitive in most of those contests.

“And, I think we’ve tried to expedite the gelling of this group,” Vaughn continued. “Whether that is more time in the locker room, whether that is yesterday, taking the advantage of being on the court together and talking amongst each other.” Brooklyn has one of the softest schedules to finish this season and that includes the Rockets who have the worst record in the Western Conference. With seven games left to play, it will be interesting to see if the Nets can come together in time to make a run in the playoffs.
