Nets’ Ben Simmons says ‘focus’ was the catalyst for team’s blowout win over Warriors

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons has been in the NBA long enough to know how important focus is to winning games. In the past, the Nets have had lackluster starts to games due to a lack of focus and attention to detail from tip-off.

However, in Wednesday’s 143-113 win over the Golden State Warriors, it was clear from the beginning that Brooklyn was focused on putting the Warriors away early. Golden State came into the game missing Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins, but, to Brooklyn’s credit, they did not take it easy on the Warriors.

The Nets won the first quarter 46-17 and did not look back. Golden state made a run in the third quarter, but the deficit was too large to overcome. Simmons spoke postgame about how focused the Nets were after scoring 10 points and dishing out 8 assists in the lopsided win:

“I think it was our focus coming into the game. I think the last two games, we came out of the game kind of slow and not focused. It was the little things for us that got us going so defensively, knowing our matchups, communication, I think that’s really what got us going.”

The Nets are on a seven-game winning streak and have won 11 of their past 12 games.
