Scotland were dealt a harsh lesson in preparation for Euro 2024 with a 4-0 defeat away in the Netherlands.
The Tartan Army, who are now winless in six games, started well at the Amsterdam ArenA. Steve Clarke’s side had the better of the chances, with Ryan Christie forcing a good save from Brentford ‘keeper Mark Flekken.
It was the hosts, however, who found the breakthrough when AC Milan midfielder Tijani Reijnders opened the scoring with a fine strike from 25 yards out just before the break.
The Scots then started the second half equally well and hit the bar through Lawrence Shankland but left themselves far too open at the back. Georginio Wijnaldum doubled the lead for the hosts before late strikes from Wout Weghorst and Donyell Mallen compounded their misery.
Scotland host Northern Ireland on Tuesday in their final game before the summer, where they will play Gibraltar and Finland before they open the European Championship against hosts Germany.
