The museum is commemorating the anniversary with a new national logo.

That first Negro Leagues World Series happened in 1924 between the Kansas City Monarchs and the Hilldale Club from Pennsylvania.

The Monarchs won the series, and their championship reign plays on through the new logo.

It recognizes the team that brought home Kansas City’s first major professional sports championship.

“It gave people some joy. It gave people something to love. It gave people something to believe in,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said Wednesday at the logo unveiling.

“If we can see our stars out there being the best in the world, what does that mean as inspiration for me, for my family and for my community? We tell stories about baseball, but as you all know, we’re really telling stories about life.”

Visitors can get into the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for free during the month of February thanks to a partnership with the Kansas City Royals and Royals Foundation.
