NC State fan flips bird after officials overrule goaltending call vs Duke in Elite Eight game

Frustration for fans with officials is very common, especially in a high-stakes games such as the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight matchup between 11 seed NC State and 4 seed Duke on Sunday in American Airlines Center in Dallas.

One such circumstance arose late in the Wolfpack's 76-64 victory over the Blue Devils, drawing ire on social media. NC State was leading 58-46 with 3:44 remaining in the game at the time when DJ Burns had a shot deflected at the rim in transition. The officials called a goaltending on the court, but went back to review it. The play was overturned, and Burns' basket came off the board, which started to draw ire from the fans.

The most viral reaction came from a young fan, who was able to voice his frustrations with the call in a different way. The fan, wearing a red shirt with "NC State" across the middle, was caught throwing up a middle finger — right behind Wolfpack basketball coach Kevin Keatts, who was also visibly frustrated with the call.

A few minutes earlier, Keatts was called for a technical for being out of the coach's box, after he had received a warning earlier in the game — one reason, perhaps, why the fan was compelled to offer the gesture to officials.

Regardless, the Wolfpack beat the Blue Devils to join UConn, Alabama and Purdue in the Final Four. It will take on the Boilermakers on Saturday.
