NBMC hockey team rolls with Hedlund, Ranger

Feb. 22—Sam Hedlund and Kilian Ranger were a potent combination for NBMC co-op boys hockey team on Saturday.

Hedlund and Ranger each had two goals and an assist as NBMC downed E.O. Smith/Tolland 5-2 in a CCC game at the South Windsor Arena.

The Bucks (1-4-0) got on the board first when Conor O'Brien scored with assists by Sam Walikonis and Cam Sterling. NBMC tied it 1:10 later as Ranger struck with an assist by Evan Howard.

NBMC (3-0-1) took the lead for good as Thomas Quirk and Hedlund scored in a 21-second span. E.O. Smith/Tolland got back within one on a goal by Keegan Hodgkisnon, but Hedlund, assisted by Braeden Humphrey and Ranger, restored the two-goal edge with four seconds to go in the period. Ranger, with assists by Hedlund and Humphrey, iced it with 2:30 remaining in the game.

Andrew Fogarty made 19 saves for NBMC, which plays at Hall-Southington on Wednesday. The Bucks take on South Windsor Wednesday.

WOODSTOCK 3, NE SHAMROCKS 1. At the Bolton Ice Palace, Nick Chubbuck's two third-period goals provided to be decisive as Woodstock improved to 2-0 by beating the Northeastern Shamrocks.

Kiyan Pourmaleki, assisted by Travis Hook, gave the Shamrocks (0-4-0) the lead early in the second period. Guerin Favreau tied it for the Centaurs with a short-handed goal. Chubbuck broke the tie with 5:58 left and then added an insurance goal with 3:42 to go.

Zach Holm recorded 35 saves for the Shamrocks.
