TNT unveils new on-court shot clock graphic, but NBA fans are split on it
TNT broke out a new on-screen graphic on the first night of the 2019-20 NBA season, though basketball fans aren’t sold on it just yet.
The network unveiled its new on-screen shot clock graphic — which counts down the shot clock each possession in a small circle at the top of the key on the court just like it does on the traditional scoreboard graphic — for the Los Angeles Lakers-Los Angeles Clippers game at the Staples Center.

Functionally, it worked extremely well. The graphic counted down when it needed to, and wasn’t really in the way like other on-screen graphics can be. TNT did leave the shot clock inside the scoreboard graphic on the bottom right of the screen, giving fans two places to look for the same information — which is, admittedly, a bit unnecessary.
TNT has used the graphic before, trying it out in a few preseason games this fall. However, with Tuesday night being the first official night of the new season, the graphic was seen by significantly more fans.
Naturally, just like they are about most issues, NBA fans were split on the new technology. Some loved the new move, while others thought they were playing a video game instead of watching an actual NBA contest.

The shot clock on the actual court at Staples is like those watches with four different smaller dials embedded in the bigger dial. They think it's sophisticated but it's just busy and distracting.

Only time will tell if TNT keeps the graphic and expands it throughout its NBA coverage this season or not.
