NBA in-season tournament schedule finalized: Here's who the Memphis Grizzlies are playing

The NBA's inaugural in-season tournament will begin this season, and the schedule for the Memphis Grizzlies has been released.

Earlier this offseason, it was revealed that the Grizzlies will be in a group with the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers. Memphis will play those teams during a three-week stretch in one of three Western Conference groups and six total.

Memphis will go to the Blazers on Nov. 3 (9 p.m. CT) , then host the Jazz on Nov. 10 (7 p.m. CT). The Grizzlies will travel to play the Lakers on Nov. 14 (9:30 p.m. CT) before hosting the Suns on Nov. 24 (4 p.m. CT) in the only game of the four expected to be shown on national TV.

A total of eight teams will move on to the knockout rounds. That will consist of winners from each group, plus the top second-place team from each conference. Because the second-place team could come from one of three groups, head-to-head will be the primary tiebreaker, but if the teams aren't in the same groups, point differential will determine which one advances.

The remainder of the tournament will be single-elimination games. The quarterfinals will take place Dec. 4 and Dec. 5, with the semifinals and championship on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Players on the championship team will win $500,000 each.

The Grizzlies are in a stacked group where their biggest obstacles are likely to be the Suns and Lakers. Portland is in the midst of a rebuild while handling Damian Lillard's trade request, and the Jazz are a talented rebuilding team that flashed potential last year before falling off toward the end of the season.

Now that the dates have been revealed, there is a little bit more clarity on if Ja Morant will be able to participate. The star Grizzlies point guard is suspended for the first 25 games of the upcoming season.

Memphis played its 25th game last season on Dec. 7, which is the date of the in-season tournament semifinals. Based on the early November start, the Grizzlies will need to maneuver through group play without Morant for a chance to have him back later in the tournament.

If a team does not advance to the knockout stage, the NBA will assign them two additional regular-season games on Dec. 6 and Dec. 8 against other teams that didn't make the final eight.

The full NBA schedule will be released Thursday, and that will provide more clarity on how the Grizzlies' season could shake out, along with Morant's availability.
