NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

Feb 20 (The Sports Xchange) - The Golden State Warriors are considering making a run to sign center Anderson Varejao, who is scheduled to clear waivers Sunday after his trade from Cleveland to Portland. Sources told ESPN.com that the Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks are currently investigating the prospect of signing Varejao. The Warriors would have to open a spot on their 15-man roster to sign Varejao. The defending champions have a need inside given the recent loss for at least six weeks of key backup Festus Ezeli to knee surgery. "I have not been notified of that but it makes perfect sense, right?" Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Friday night of the possibility of signing Varejao. "I don't even know, am I allowed to even mention his name? I can get fined by the NBA. I don't even know what the rule is." - - - The Charlotte Hornets signed guard Jorge Gutierrez to a 10-day contract. Gutierrez joins the Hornets from the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League. The Chihuahua, Mexico, native has appeared in 35 career NBA games (three starts) over two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 3.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds. Gutierrez began the 2015-16 season as a member of the Bucks' preseason roster but was waived on Oct. 21. - - - The Phoenix Suns signed point guard Phil Pressey to a 10-day contract. Pressey, in his third NBA season, averaged 3.9 points and 3.3 assists in 14 games with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season. (Editing by Andrew Both)
