NBA betting: 76ers get crucial 51st win on the last day of the season

The Philadelphia 76ers made everyone who bet the over on their win total very happy on Sunday night.

The Sixers beat the Detroit Pistons 118-108 in what seemed to be a relatively meaningless final game of the season. Philly rested both Joel Embiid and James Harden, and star Pistons rookie and No. 1 draft pick Cade Cunningham also sat out.

But the game was big for anyone who took the 76ers to finish with over 50.5 wins ahead of the season at BetMGM. The win means the Sixers finish the season at 51-31.

Philadelphia was the only NBA team whose win total fate came down to the final game of the season. Everyone else was assured of being over or under ahead of Sunday. But there were a few teams that did come very close to their Vegas totals.

The Denver Nuggets hit the over in the penultimate game of the season. Denver got its 48th win against Memphis on Thursday night after a preseason win total of 47.5. The Oklahoma City Thunder hit over 23.5 wins with three games to go but ended their season of tanking with three consecutive losses.

A Pistons win would have left Detroit a game short of going over its win total. Detroit’s loss to Philly means the Pistons finished the season at 23-59. Their win total was 24.5. The Orlando Magic’s win against Miami on Sunday meant they finished the season at 22-60. Orlando’s preseason total was 22.5.

Overall, 16 teams went over their preseason win totals while 14 teams went under. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers were two of the biggest overachievers in the NBA this season while the Lakers and Nets famously went way under their win totals as the teams with the highest totals entering the season.
