NBA 2K24: A look at the different versions and new features

Los Angeles Laker great Kobe Bryant will serve as the cover athlete for the next edition of the NBA 2K franchise, with two distinct versions of NBA 2K24. This is an obvious fit, given Bryant’s iconic No. 24 jersey. This latest iteration of the game has a few key features and upgrades that fans have come to expect from each annual update to the game. NBA 2K24 will be available starting September 8.

This is the 25th year for NBA 2K, a massive milestone for a game that sits at the intersection of so many different cultural touchstones. Including Bryant in this celebration is an equal testament to what Bryant means to basketball.

“As we celebrate 25 years of NBA 2K with Kobe Bryant, we commemorate his legacy and the generational impact he has had on the game of basketball.” said president at 2K’s parent company Visual Concepts Greg Thomas.

2K also unveiled WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu from the New York Liberty as the cover athlete for 2K24’s WNBA edition. Here’s what we know so far about NBA 2K24.

The first version of 2K24, the “Kobe Bryant Edition,” is the more base version of the game. 2K is also launching a “Black Mamba Edition” as well as a deluxe version dubbed the “25th Anniversary Edition” which includes a subscription to NBA League Pass and more.

This year’s game features “Mamba Moments,” which will allow players to recreate some of the most iconic shots and games from Kobe Bryant’s career. It will also see the launch of “ProPLAY,” a feature set to integrate real NBA footage into the game itself. Excitingly for gamers, NBA 2K24 will be cross-compatible between different gaming systems.

To kick of the celebration, current players of NBA 2K23 can now participate in a MyTEAM Triple Threat Challenge featuring different eras from Bryant’s career, with the chance to earn special rewards for the newest version of the game.
