Nathan Peterman pick-six brings out deafening boos in Buffalo's horrific first half

Nathan Peterman needed just nine plays to help manufacture 14 points — for his opponents.

Yes, the Internet’s favorite bad quarterback was back at it again on Sunday against a Chicago Bears team that felt confident enough of their chances in Buffalo that they let their best defensive player, Khalil Mack, take the day off.

In one half of football, Peterman completed 12 of 19 passes for 75 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns. The Bills’ offense as a whole managed just 116 yards in the first half with just six first downs — including converting just two of eight third downs.

It was 30 minutes of football that can’t be summed up any better than how the Bills’ official Twitter account already did:

Buffalo’s three straight turnovers

The Bears’ defense got the fun started when Eddie Jackson recovered a Jason Croom fumble and ran it back 65 yards for the score midway through the second quarter. Croom found himself in the huddle after starting tight end Charles Clay injured his hamstring early in the game.

On the next Buffalo drive, Peterman’s first pass attempt — a quick strike over the middle to recently-acquired Terrelle Pryor — was immediately picked off by Adrian Amos. The Bears weren’t able to do much on offense after that turnover, so the Bills, ever the gracious host, made things a bit easier on their next possession.

Peterman took a third-and-short and slung the ball right into the arms of linebacker Leonard Floyd, who merely had to run 19 yards for the score.

It still gets worse for Buffalo

Just when it seemed like the Bills could escape the first half with a 21-0 deficit, Buffalo’s special teams gave up nearly 40 yards on a punt return to Tarik Cohen before allowing Jordan Howard to break free for an 18-yard touchdown.

This game was never in doubt. The Bears knew it and sat Mack for another week because they could. The Bills knew it as soon as holding out hope for a healthy Derek Anderson became their best-case scenario.

It almost felt cruel when the Bears started taunting the Bills on their sidelines.

Peterman ended the day going 31-for-49 passing 189 yards and three interceptions. He also scored the first rushing touchdown against the Bears all season because he’s determined to be the best trivia question answer of all time.

Fortunately for Buffalo, there’s only one game left on their schedule against a team with a record above .500. So maybe this is what rock bottom looks like.

Unfortunately, that one game is against the New England Patriots in Foxborough, so maybe it can still get worse.
