Nashville SC at Inter Miami and Lionel Messi: How to watch, stream MLS match for free

Less than two weeks after falling to Inter Miami and Lionel Messi in the Leagues Cup final, Nashville SC will have a chance for revenge.

Nashville heads to Florida to take on Miami Wednesday (6:30 p.m. CT, Apple TV) in its second MLS match since the season resumed after the Leagues Cup break.

While Nashville had a strong run through the Leagues Cup before losing on penalties to Miami, its MLS form as of late has been another story. Gary Smith's squad has lost its last four league games, three of them by multiple goals. The most recent defeat was a 4-0 loss at Atlanta United last Saturday.

Nashville (11-5-9, 38 points) sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The top seven teams in each conference qualify directly for the MLS Cup Playoffs first round, while the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds play in the Wild Card round.

Miami's postseason hopes are much bleaker. At 6-3-14, Miami (21 points) is in 14th place, 11 points behind the ninth-place Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference. But Messi gives them a chance: Miami has won all nine games the international superstar has played in. He scored as a substitute in Miami's 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls last Saturday.

Will Lionel Messi play against Nashville SC on Wednesday?

Messi started all but one of Miami's Leagues Cup matches and played all 90 minutes in five of them. He then played 120 minutes against FC Cincinnati in last Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup semifinals as Miami won on penalties. Messi came off the bench and played 30 minutes against the Red Bulls.

After playing 210 minutes in just four days, Messi was in need of a break last weekend. However, Miami coach Gerardo Martino told reporters Tuesday that Messi would start against Nashville.

Nashville SC injury updates

Nashville might be without two of its designated players against Miami. Center back Walker Zimmerman, who missed the Atlanta game with a lower body injury, is listed as questionable for Wednesday. Striker Sam Surridge is also questionable with a lower body injury.
