Filip Forsberg scores two goals in third period, Nashville Predators push past Dallas Stars

Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg showed the Dallas Stars why he was named an NHL All-Star this week.

Forsberg scored two third period goals to break a 2-2 tie and give the Predators a 4-3 victory over the Stars on Saturday at the American Airlines Center.

The Predators' leading goal scorer put the Predators ahead 3-2 at 2:42 of the third period with a backhanded shot off a Gustav Nyquist cross-ice pass, then gave Nashville a 4-2 lead five minutes later on a wraparound that squeaked by Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood.

Jason Robertson scored midway through the third period to cut Nashville's lead to one goal, but the Predators defense held up in the final 10 minutes.

Nashville played much better on Saturday after a 6-3 loss to Calgary that left coach Andrew Brunette frustrated postgame on Thursday, and it started in the first period.

Gustav Nyquist opened the scoring at 11:26 of the first period by beating Wedgewood with a nifty shot off of a takeaway for the unassisted goal.

Dallas had a Sam Steel goal wiped away via a Predators successful challenge for offside. Luke Evangelista scored on a 2-on-1 at 7:22 of the second period to give the Predators a 2-0 lead.

The Stars would tie the game on second period goals by Tyler Seguin at 9:29 and Jamie Benn on a power play tip-in with 45 seconds remaining in the period.

And in the third period, the Predators All-Star forward took over. Kevin Lankinen stopped 26 of 29 shots to earn the victory, shutting the door on the Stars in the final minutes.

It is Forsberg's 20th goal of the season. Words don't do justice to the stickwork on the backhanded shot. He's an All-Star for a reason.

Jamie Benn draws a penalty, then gets the tip-in goal from a Thomas Harley shot off the faceoff. Dallas has fought back from 2-0 down to tie the game at 2 at the end of the second period.

Predators 2, Stars 1 at 9:29 of the second period: Tyler Seguin gets Dallas on the scoreboard

Dallas possesses the puck and passes it around its offensive zone, and Tyler Seguin somehow makes it through and between several Predators skaters to score off of a good pass from Matt Duchene.

The Predators have been better tonight on that end, but Andrew Brunette won't be thrilled by that goal. Predators lead is now 2-1.

Stars goal wiped away by offside early in second

A Sam Steel goal is wiped away by a Predators successful challenge for offside. Nashville still leads 1-0, 6:35 into the second period.

Gustav Nyquist picks the pocket of a Stars skater, then beats Wedgewood to open the scoring. Nyquist now has a points streak of eight games.

It's Nyquist's 10th goal of the season. Preds lead 1-0 in the first.
