Nashville Predators continue poor home form in 5-3 loss to Anaheim Ducks

The Nashville Predators continued their inconsistent form at home on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks.

Nashville allowed three first-period goals en route to a 5-3 loss to the Ducks at Bridgestone Arena. With the loss, the Predators now own a 12-11-0 record at home this season and have lost five of six games in Nashville.

Nashville played poorly in the first two periods and were not helped by some bad bounces that led to goals. Ryan Strome opened the scoring for Anaheim (14-25-1) on a breakaway goal after coming out of the penalty box following a Predators shot that was cleared out to center ice at 11:12 of the first period.

Frank Vatrano got credit for the Ducks' second goal three minutes later on a shot that deflected off of Ryan McDonagh and into the net past Juuse Saros. Mason McTavish scored on a power-play goal off a tight angle that bounced off of Saros' upper body and into the top corner of the net to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

It didn't get better for the Predators in the second period. Troy Terry got credit for the lone goal in the period on a shot that was guided in by Dante Fabbro's stick near the goal mouth to push Anaheim's lead to 4-0. And Radko Gudas made it 5-0 early in the third period on a rebound shot that bounced off of Luke Evangelista's skate following another breakaway at the end of a Predators power play.

The Predators added three consolation goals after that in the third period, from Alexandre Carrier, Philip Tomasino and Denis Gurianov.

Saros made 28 saves on 33 shots in a losing effort. Anaheim's Lukas Dostal saved 39 of 42 shots.

Denis Gurianov makes it 5-3 with 45 seconds left after finally getting the puck on goal following a lengthy scramble in front of Dostal's net.

But that's all for the Predators. A good third period, but it can't undo 45 minutes of a really poor performance.

Predators get two back in the third period, but too little, too late.

Ducks 5, Predators 1 at 9:44 of the third period: Preds won't get shut out

The Predators are on the board with a shorthanded goal. Alexandre Carrier blocks a shot, which leads to a 2-on-2 breakout for Carrier and Gus Nyquist. Carrier ends up with the puck and beats Lukas Dostal rive-hole.

The assist will go to Gus Nyquist, whose point streak continues now at nine games.

Really good effort by Carrier in the third period of a 5-0 game. Anaheim's lead is now 5-1.

Ducks 5, Predators 0 at 3:16 of the third period: Anaheim again scores following a penalty kill

Again, the Predators allow a goal after a power play to the Ducks skater coming out of the penalty box.

The Ducks clear the puck to center ice as the power play ends, and Radko Gudas lumbers on a breakaway attempt to an awkward shot. Juuse Saros saves the first shot, but Gudas corrals the puck behind the net and banks the puck off a skate and into the net on a tight angle. Might have been off of Luke Evangelista's skate.

This has been a bad performance tonight for the Predators. Anaheim's lead is 5-0.

End of the second period: Ducks 4, Predators 0

Nashville creates some better chances later in the second period but does not score. Barring a spectacular comeback, the Predators are poised to own a 12-11-0 home record this season.

Ducks 4, Predators 0 at 3:05 of the second period: Troy Terry adds to Ducks' lead on deflected shot

Troy Terry gets his 10th goal of the season early in the second period to add to the Ducks' lead on a deflected shot that hit Dante Fabbro's stick.

The Predators are still not in this game coming out of the first intermission. Anaheim's lead is 4-0.

There have been a couple unlucky deflections, but Juuse Saros again doesn't look comfortable tonight. He has allowed four goals on 15 shots.

Trevor Zegras will not return with a lower body injury

The Ducks announce during the first intermission that Trevor Zegras will not return to Tuesday's game with a lower-body injury.

Zegras was helped off the ice following a collision early in the first period.

Ducks 3, Predators 0 at 17:37 of the first period: Anaheim adds a power-play goal

Anaheim adds another late in the first period on the power play. A cross-ice pass from Troy Terry to Mason McTavish is followed by a high shot by McTavish from a tight angle that bounces high off of Saros' upper body and into the net.

This first period is among the worst of the season by the Predators. Anaheim leads 3-0.

Ducks 2, Predators 0 at 14:11 of the first period: Frank Vatrano scores on a deflection

Anaheim adds to the lead, with a Frank Vatrano deflection of a Jackson LaCombe shot that gets past Juuse Saros, who looked unsure. That puck might have also deflected off of Ryan McDonagh too.

The Predators have not been very good in the first period, and the scoreboard reflects correctly. Anaheim 2, Nashville 0.

Ducks 1, Predators 0 at 11:12 of the first period: Ryan Strome scores on a post-power play breakaway

Bad luck for the Predators. As the power play expires, a Roman Josi shot misses the net, bounces off the end boards and is narrowly missed on a rebound attempt by Ryan O'Reilly. The puck is cleared back to center ice, where Ryan Strome is waiting out of the box for the breakaway. Strome goes 5-hole through Saros to score.

It is the fourth goal of the season for Strome. Anaheim leads 1-0.

Trevor Zegras injury: Anaheim Ducks' star center helped off ice in first period

Anaheim center Trevor Zegras was injured early in the first period up against the boards.

The Ducks young center stayed on the ice near the boards close to the Predators bench after a collision with Juuso Pärssinen in the Anaheim offensive zone. He was helped off the ice with some assistance and was slowly helped to the locker room.

Zegras, 22, has been limited to 20 games (4 goals, 3 assists) in his fourth NHL season after posting 60-plus point seasons in each of the last two campaigns.

Juuse Saros starts in goal, Cody Glass draws in for Predators

Cody Glass returns to the Predators forward lineup after missing four games. Juuse Saros is starting in goal for Nashville.

Yakov Trenin and Kiefer Sherwood are the healthy scratches.

Lukas Dostal is in goal for Anaheim, with a 3.50 GAA and a .901 save percentage.
