Nashville Predators top Los Angeles Kings for third straight win on the road

The missed U2 concert in their rearview mirror, the Nashville Predators strived to stay perfect on their five-game road trip Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings.

The result was a 4-1 victory for Nashville, its third in a row.

Predators forward Yakov Trenin beat goalie and former Nashville teammate David Rittich to give his team a 1-0 lead with 11 minutes, 13 seconds left in the first period. Trenin’s ninth goal of the season was assisted by Colton Sissons.

Former Predators forward Kevin Fiala answered with a 5-on-3 goal with just under a minute left in the first that tied the score 1-1. It was his 15th goal of the season.

Mark Jankowski shoved the puck past Rittich with 5:14 left in the second to put the Predators back ahead 2-1. It was his second goal of the season. Luke Evangelista earned an assist on the play.

Sissons’ empty-net goal with three minutes left gave the Predators a two-goal lead. It was his 15th goal of the season, matching his career high. Jeremy Lauzon’s empty-net goal in the final minute gave Nashville a three-goal lead.

The Predators pulled within four points of the Kings for the top spot in the Western Conference wild-card race. They remained tied for points (62) with the St. Louis Blues, who won 4-0 Thursday, for the second wild-card spot.

The Kings (28-17-10) had won three in a row.

The Predators (30-25-2) were coming off a 5-3 victory Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights. They beat the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Luke Evangelista scored his second goal in two games Tuesday, when Cody Glass scored his first goal since Dec. 19 and his second of the season. The Predators' worst-dressed player, Tommy Novak, has four goals in his past five games.
