Nashville area softball rankings: Stewarts Creek, Wilson Central return to Spring Fling

Here’s a look at the top 10 Nashville-area large and small class high school softball teams, as ranked by The Tennessean entering the Spring Fling state championships.

The small class poll includes teams in Classes 1A-2A and Division II-A, and the large class poll includes teams in Classes 3A-4A and Division II-AA.

Large Class

1. Springfield (29-4): Rebecca Farrow's walk-off two-run home run in the Region 7-4A championship against Clarksville highlighted a week that also included wins over Henry County and Collierville. Last week: No. 1.

2. Stewarts Creek (28-10-1): The Lady Red Hawks picked up close wins over Siegel and Smyrna before beating Warren County 9-1 to advance to the state tournament for the second time and first time since 2016. Last week: No. 4.

3. Wilson Central (36-10): For the first time since they won a state title in 2015, the Lady Wildcats made it back to the state tournament after beating Station Camp, Beech and Centennial. Last week: No. 6.

4. Clarksville (33-10): The Lady Wildcats bounced back from the loss to Springfield by beating Collierville 2-1 on the road, advancing to the state tournament for the first time since 2016. Last week: No. 9.

5. Lincoln County (27-10-1): The Lady Falcons were dominant in each of their wins, beating Upperman 9-0, White County 13-1 and East Hamilton 18-8 to advance to the state tournament for the first time. Last week: Not ranked.

6. Coffee County (24-14): Following wins over Walker Valley and Warren County, the Lady Red Raiders scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Smyrna 7-2. Last week: Not ranked.

7. Summit (20-12): Ashlyn Easley hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to complete a 10-9 comeback win over Beech. The Lady Spartans scored seven runs over the final two innings. Last week: Not ranked.

8. Smyrna (28-9): Pitching struggles doomed the Lady Bulldogs in back-to-back losses to Stewarts Creek and Coffee County to close out the season. Last week: No. 3.

9. Beech (25-13): A 5-2 win over Mt. Juliet was the only victory the Lady Buccaneers picked up as their season ended with losses to Wilson Central and Summit. Last week: Not ranked.

10. White County (26-9): The Warriorettes struggled to get their bats going and gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth in a 2-1 loss to Soddy Daisy. Last week: No. 10.

Small Class

1. Columbia Academy (36-6): Anna Brewer drove in three runs as the Lady Bulldogs beat Silverdale Academy 6-3 in the decisive third game of their series to advance to the Division II-A final four. Last week: No. 1.

2. Summertown (36-9): After blowout wins over Harpeth and Loretto in the Region 5-2A tournament, the Lady Eagles used four first-inning runs to beat Westview 5-2. Last week: No. 2.

3. Forrest (26-10): The two-time defending Class 2A champion will try to win its third straight title following wins over Whites Creek, Community and Westmoreland. Last week: No. 6.

4. Huntland (22-5): Ashtyn Danley's eight-strikeout performance against McKenzie helped the Lady Hornets recover from a loss to Eagleville. Last week: No. 3.

5. Eagleville (16-8): Rylee Warbritton's two RBIs led the Lady Eagles past Huntland 4-1. Addi Linton also drove in two runs and struck out 11 in a 6-0 win over Bruceton. Last week: No. 5.

6. Jo Byrns (19-9): Korey Harris totaled 27 strikeouts over two wins and Callie Yates threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Red Boiling Springs to lead the Lady Red Devils to their first Spring Fling appearance. Last week: Not ranked.

7. Gordonsville (25-6-1): Kailey Plumlee struck out 14 in a 7-1 win over Whitwell to lead the Tigerettes to their first state tournament appearance since 2014. Last week: No. 4.

8. Zion Christian (26-3): The Lady Eagles' season came to an end the week before last. Last week: No. 7.

9. DCA (21-10): Behind a five-RBI game from Anaya Dawson in the first game of the series and six total RBIs from Bailey Shepherd, the Lady Wildcats had no issues sweeping Grace Christian Academy of Knoxville. Last week: No. 9.

10. Community (25-11-1): The Viqueens pulled off the upset of the week, traveling to Bledsoe County and beating the 30-win Lady Warriors 1-0. Last week: No. 10.
