Nashville area Large Class boys basketball rankings: Brentwood Academy ascends to top spot

Tennessee high school boys basketball teams got back to play last week after winter weather postponed and canceled games throughout the state two weeks ago.

Here is a look at the latest Nashville area Large Class high school boys basketball rankings. The Large Class consists of schools in Class 3A, 4A and Division II-AA.

1. Brentwood Academy (17-5) – The Eagles captured their fifth straight win Saturday in a big game against previously top-ranked Pope John Paul II. Tyler Tanner's 28 points led the Eagles to a 15-point win.  Last week's ranking: No. 2.

2. Franklin (15-4) – Franklin continued its impressive run of games for the past few weeks. The Admirals beat Page, Ravenwood and Brentwood last week and have beaten the Raptors and Bruins twice this season. At 7-0 in league play, Franklin is staring to run away with District 10-4A.  Last week's ranking: No. 3.

3. Pope John Paul II (18-3) – Pope's nine-game win streak was snapped by the Eagles this past weekend, but the Knights trail Brentwood Academy by only half a game in the Division II-AA Middle Region standings, having split its two regular-season games with BA. Last week's ranking: No. 1.

4. Siegel (19-2) – Few teams in Middle Tennessee have been on the run that the Stars have managed for more than a month. Siegel picked up two wins last week and is on an 18-game win streak and has a 4-0 mark in the District 8-4A standings. Carter Webb had 21 points in a 61-32 win over Riverdale on Friday. Last week's ranking: No. 4.

5. Hillsboro (14-3) – Hillsboro's huge matchup with Antioch on Jan. 19 was postponed because of winter weather. The Burros picked up three wins last week and will play Antioch on Saturday. Cortez Graham-Howard had 14 points against Cane Ridge and 18 against Hunters Lane last week. Last week's ranking: No. 8.

6. Ravenwood (18-3) – The week included wins against Centennial and Nolensville and a loss to the No. 2-ranked Admirals last week. The Raptors rallied to beat the Knights last Friday. Last week's ranking: No. 5.

7. Cookeville (19-3) – The Cavaliers won their eighth straight with an 11-point win over Stewarts Creek. They also beat Wilson Central by 16 and La Vergne by 11 last week. Last week's ranking: No. 7.

8. Upperman (18-4) – Braden Roberts had three 3-pointers and 13 points in a one point win over Stone Memorial, 45-44, last Friday The win gave the Bees a full-game lead on Stone Memorial in District 7-3A. Last week's ranking: No. 9.

9. Antioch (17-4) – Since a two-point loss to Cane Ridge on Jan. 12, the Bears have reeled off three consecutive wins against Overton, Hunters Lane and McGavock. Jaiden Claybrooks averaged 20.3 points in those three games. Last week's ranking: Not ranked.

10. Independence (16-6) – Indy has struggled in recent weeks, losing three of its past four games, including a pair last week to Brentwood (62-43) and Centennial (46-43). Last week's ranking: No. 6.
