NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas: Live updates, highlights, live leaderboard of Pennzoil 400

The NASCAR Cup Series takes on the windy Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Sunday's Pennzoil 400.

The 400-mile race will look a lot different than the previous two races under the superspeedway or pack racing style. Tire wear and handling should play a role in Sunday's race.

Among the favorites should be polesitter Joey Logano and any number of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers including 2023 Las Vegas winners William Byron and Kyle Larson.

Someone who won't feel too much pressure? Daniel Suarez, whose win last Sunday at Atlanta all but puts him into the playoffs. His win on a three-wide photo finish will be difficult to top as the highlight of the season.

Will there be a third different winner in three Cup Series races this season? Follow along with our live updates of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas:

NASCAR Las Vegas live updates, leaderboard: Highlights, updates from Pennzoil 400 Cup Series race

FULL RESULTS FROM SUNDAY'S RACE: Who won NASCAR Cup race in Las Vegas? Winner is Kyle Larson, plus full results

Kyle Larson outduels Tyler Reddick to win the Pennzoil 400

Kyle Larson again outduels Tyler Reddick, beating the No. 45 Toyota by a half-second to the checkered flag.

Lap 255: Tyler Reddick closes in again

Tyler Reddick is a tenth or two faster than Kyle Larson each lap, and he's within a half-second with 12 to go.

Lap 247: Noah Gragson into the top 5

Noah Gragson has an excellent restart and moves into the top 5. This is a good run for Stewart-Haas Racing if it holds.

Green flag Lap 239: Kyle Larson leads again

Every lead lap car came in for fresh tires. Ross Chastain is the lone driver who opts for two tires.

After some side-by-side racing. Larson clears Chastain for the lead.

Caution Lap 233: Corey Lajoie spins

Corey Lajoie's solid day takes a spin, as the No. 7 Chevrolet spins in Turn 2. This changes things with 34 laps to go.

Lap 221: Kyle Larson retakes the lead as pit stops cycle through

Kyle Larson's lead over Tyler Reddick has ballooned to 2.5 seconds after pit stops. Alex Bowman and Joey Logano among the drivers who are benefitting from coming in earlier than the others. Both are in the top 10.

Lap 213: Kyle Busch pit road penalty ruins his day

Kyle Busch is penalized for pitting outside of his box and has to serve a pass-through penalty. A possible top-10 finish is no more.

Lap 197: Tyler Reddick within a second of Kyle Larson

Tyler Reddick's car has very good long-run speed. He's cut Kyle Larson's lead to six-tenths of a second.

The last pit stop looms...

Bubba Wallace now 12 laps down after lugnut issue

Bubba Wallace's crew had to run down the list of how to get a jammed lugnut off of the No. 23 Toyota. He returns to the track after getting the lug nut cut off, now 12 laps down. Some unusual things have occurred on pit road today.

Lap 180: Larson checks out

Kyle Larson's lead is almost 2 seconds over Tyler Reddick and Denny Hamlin. Chase Briscoe enters the top five, in 5th. Josh Berry is about as high up the running order as he's been today, in 15th.

Lap 173: Back to green with Kyle Larson leading

Kyle Larson clears the rest of the leaders to lead with 94 laps to go.

Kyle Larson outlasts Tyler Reddick to win Stage 2

A rewind of Stage 1, with Tyler Reddick trying to run down Kyle Larson and running out of time.

Larson sweeps the first two stages. The full Stage 2 results:

  1. Kyle Larson

  2. Tyler Reddick

  3. Denny Hamlin

  4. Ryan Blaney

  5. Martin Truex Jr.

  6. Chase Elliott

  7. Austin Dillon

  8. Alex Bowman

  9. Joey Logano

  10. Erik Jones

Christopher Bell had more issues and was on pit road as the stage ended. He's now listed at two laps down.

Ty Gibbs has pit stop issues

The No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing team has issues with the left side, and a tire rolls away as they work on trying to change those two. That'll be an uncontrolled tire penalty, though he was going to be in the back of the field anyway.

PRN reports that Gibbs was supposed to have a two-tire change, then the crew made an audible when he slid into the pits. The issues added on from there. The 54 team also does not have first gear, per PRN.

Ross Chastain among those who take the wavearound to get back on the lead lap. Should be a short sprint to the end of Stage 2. Alex Bowman took two tires and leads Kyle Larson.

Another pit road issue: Kyle Busch drops outside of the top 15 after a slow stop after coming in in second.

CAUTION Lap 157: Christopher Bell spins off Turn 2

Christopher Bell spins off Turn 2, avoiding the wall and other cars as he spins. Appeared to lose the car on his own.

8 laps to go in Stage 2. Ross Chastain remains a lap down with Derek Kraus getting the free pass.

Lap 152: Carson Hocevar makes unscheduled stop

Carson Hocevar comes down pit road from inside the top 15 and gets four tires. That's an unscheduled stop, as the field cut the stage into two tire runs with the pit stop earlier in Stage 2.

Bubba Wallace has issues on pit road, loses three laps

Bubba Wallace had a disastrous time on pit road during that sequence as his crew apparently dealt with an issue on the left front. Wallace had spent some time in the top 10 early in the race, and it's going to be a long road toward getting back on the lead lap at a long run-dominant track. He's three laps down.

The No. 23 team reports to PRN that the lug nut was not tightening, and it may be an issue going forward throughout the rest of the race.

Lap 122: Larson continues to lead after green flag stops cycle through

Kyle Larson holds a half-second lead after pit stops cycle through. Ryan Blaney is now in the mix among the leaders, in 3rd. Chase Elliott enters the top 10 after pit stops too.

Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric and Daniel Hemric all have to come back in and serve pass-through penalties for speeding on pit road on that sequence.

Lap 104: Kyle Larson again in the lead

Kyle Larson moves to the inside and by Denny Hamlin heading into Turn 1 to re-take the lead.

Kyle Busch is now third, with Corey Lajoie in fourth and Martin Truex Jr. in fifth.

Spire Motorsports is showing some strength today, with Lajoie P4 and Carson Hocevar P12.

BTW: William Byron did eventually earn the free pass to end Stage 1 and is back on the lead lap, though mired in 26th.

Lap 89: Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin lead the field to start Stage 2

Denny Hamlin takes a lap and a half to pass teammate Martin Truex Jr. for the lead as Stage 2 goes green.

Corey Lajoie is third. Pretty good run so far for the Spire Motorsports Chevrolet.

Kyle Larson holds off Tyler Reddick to win Stage 1: Results

Tyler Reddick shaved off nearly all of the margin between himself and leader Kyle Larson, but Larson just holds him off of Turn 4 to earn the Stage 1 victory.

Reddick and Ty Gibbs were the fastest cars among the top 10 in the final laps of the stage. Keep that in mind going forward.

Stage 1 results:

  1. Kyle Larson (1 playoff point)

  2. Tyler Reddick

  3. Martin Truex Jr.

  4. Kyle Busch

  5. Denny Hamlin

  6. Ty Gibbs

  7. Corey Lajoie

  8. Ross Chastain

  9. Austin Cindric

  10. Christopher Bell

Lap 70: Risers and fallers

Besides Christopher Bell's recovery, some moves up in Stage 1 include:

  • Ross Chastain, who started at the rear of the field and is currently 8th

  • Corey Lajoie up to 7th

  • Noah Gragson surging up to 19th after starting 30th

Brad Keselowski has struggled in Stage 1, though he has moved up to 23rd after running around 28th for the first 60 laps or so. The Front Row Motorsports duo of Michael McDowell and Todd Gilliland are 30th and 31st, respectively.

Lap 63: Kyle Larson back in front

Larson gets around Kyle Busch for the lead on the frontstretch, though he doesn't quite pull away.

JJ Yeley goes a lap down, and it'll be an uphill battle for William Byron to get the free pass.

Lap 58: Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson have pulled away from the field

Kyle Busch leads Kyle Larson, and the two Chevrolets lead third-place Tyler Reddick by 3 seconds.

The top 10:

  1. Kyle Busch

  2. Kyle Larson

  3. Tyler Reddick

  4. Martin Truex Jr.

  5. Denny Hamlin

  6. Ty Gibbs

  7. Daniel Suarez

  8. Corey Lajoie

  9. Austin Cindric

  10. Christopher Bell (recovered from early cut tire)

Lap 45: Kyle Busch wins four-car battle for the lead

Kyle Busch clears Daniel Suarez for the lead as Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson join the battle.

Meanwhile, William Byron is on pit road with a trash bag stuck to the grill on the front of his car. Don't see that too often. He'll lose a lap.

Lap 36: Back under green with Daniel Suarez leading

Daniel Suarez is the first of three cars that didn't pit, and he leads to field to the restart.

RED FLAG Lap 32: Wall repair

There is some repair work needed in Turns 1 and 2 after the Buescher crash, so the red flag is out and the cars are stopped. Still have 48 laps to go in Stage 1.

CAUTION Lap 26: Chris Buescher crashes after lug nut, wheel falls off

Another tire issue, and it's Chris Buescher who slams into the outside wall. He took two tires on the first pit stop on the day.

Upon replay, it appears Buescher had a lug nut fall off, with the right front wheel flying off as he hit the outside wall with quite a bit of force. He was battling Martin Truex Jr. for 7th.

The No. 17 Ford team tells FOX that the right front lug nut did not get tightened enough. He will be a DNF today,

Lap 20: William Byron takes the lead

William Byron and his four new tires drive past Chase Briscoe and Corey Lajoie to take the lead. Kyle Larson follows suit, but Byron has a 1.3-second lead by the time Larson clears Briscoe for second.

Meanwhile, Zane Smith, who had an earlier issue, is back on the track at five laps down.

Lap 15: Back to green with Chris Buescher leading

Chris Buescher leads the field to the green flag after taking two tires on the previous pit stop. Kyle Larson and Joey Logano are back in 6th and 7th on the restart. Christopher Bell is still on the lead lap.

CAUTION Lap 10: Christopher Bell cuts tire, has right-side damage

Christopher Bell cuts a tire as he drives off of Turn 4. Plenty of smoke comes from his right-rear tire, and there's some damage too. Don't think Bell hit anything, but there's plenty of debris across the frontstretch and into Turn 1.

Bell started 10th. The No. 20 Toyota is still on the lead lap for now. Here comes pit stops.

Lap 4: Zane Smith to pit road after slapping the wall

Zane Smith slaps the wall coming off of Turn 2 and is slowly moving down to pit road. The team and driver is concerned about the toe link.

Lap 1: Joey Logano leads the field to the green flag

Joey Logano leads lap 1, but here comes Kyle Larson to nobody's surprise.

Engines have fired at Las Vegas

Raiders punter A.J. Cole yells the command to fire engines, and the cars are moving on pit road. Green flag is upcoming. The wind is not nearly as bad as Saturday, and there are sunny skies above Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Daniel Suarez introduced by Pitbull earlier this week during concert in Nashville

Daniel Suarez has been the main topic of the sport since his three-wide photo finish victory last week in Atlanta.

That includes inside of Bridgestone Arena during Wednesday's concert featuring Pitbull, who co-owns Trackhouse Racing including the No. 99 Chevrolet that Suarez drives. Pitbull introduced Suarez to the crowd as the most recent winner in the Cup Series.

Suarez recalled the story to media in Las Vegas earlier this weekend, via FOX.

Suarez's win last week was his second Cup victory of his career.
