Outspoken Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said he will complain to UEFA about the Champions League draw that saw them pitted in the same group as PSG and Liverpool.

Despite being in Pot 2 of the draw, the Italian side are arguably third favourites to qualify from the group containing the financial might of PSG and last season’s beaten finalists Liverpool.

The Reds were in Pot 3 for the draw, despite their exploits last year, as the seeding is based on the last five years of European football, during which time the Reds’ only campaign of note was their run to the Europa League final.

Benfica’s qualification for this year’s edition saw Liverpool consigned to Pot 3, which De Laurentiis is livid about.

“We are bitter, I will ask for an explanation from UEFA,” De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Liverpool, Champions League finalists, are put in pot three? It is a disastrous anomaly.”

As well as PSG and Liverpool, Napoli will also face Red Star Belgrade in Group C, who qualified for the tournament with victory over RB Salzburg.
