Mozzicato signs with Royals
Jul. 17—Frank Mozzicato has signed with the Kansas City Royals, the team announced on Twitter Saturday.
Mozzicato, a native of Ellington and a graduate of East Catholic High, was drafted seventh overall by the Royals in the 2021 MLB Draft Sunday.
No details of the deal were released. The slot value for the seventh pick is $5,432,400.
Mozzicato finished 9-0 with a 0.13 ERA for the Eagles in his senior season. He allowed only nine hits and two runs — one of them earned — in 55 2/3 innings.
He didn't allow a hit in 30 2/3 innings from April 26 to May 5, and didn't allow a run over the final 49 2/3 innings of his high school career.
East Catholic finished the season 25-0, beating Northwestern 7-0 to win the Class M championship, the team's first state title since 1997. In that game, Mozzicato pitched a one-hitter, striking out 17.
