Tuesday's results: Alec McLeod scored two goals in Hoover boys soccer team's win over Hudson

The Hoover boys soccer team scored three goals in a four-minute span in the second half to break open a scoreless game as the Vikings defeated Hudson 4-0.

Hoover's Cam VanNatta passes the ball past Hudson's Luke Bleifer in the first period of Hudson at Hoover Boys Soccer. Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Hoover's Cam VanNatta passes the ball past Hudson's Luke Bleifer in the first period of Hudson at Hoover Boys Soccer. Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Alec McLeod started the scoring by making a free kick from 25 yards out to the bottom right corner of the net with 21:20 to play.

“I scored on one of those last game as well,” McLeod said. “Myself and Cam (VanNatta) alternate on free kicks and I told him I wanted that one. He told me to take it and I was able to find a way to get it in the back of the net. I was so happy when I saw that go in.”

McLeod wasn’t done. He scored a second time less than a minute later with 20:25 to go. VanNatta finished the big run with a goal of his own with 19:21 to play. Ethan Jones rounded out the scoring for the Vikings with a goal with 11:04 to go.

“At halftime I might have bet that this game would finish 0-0,” Hoover head coach Jonathan Zahn said. “I also would have bet that Alec would find a way to score when he got the free kick because he has been such a difference maker for us as of late. I didn’t anticipate us scoring three goals in four minutes against such a good side. Alec’s first goal was the catalyst for us. It was huge.”
