MLB Sunday Leadoff to broadcast Detroit Tigers game from unique perspective

Former Detroit Tigers player Craig Monroe, left, with son Cannon, watches twin Collin throw out a ceremonial first pitch before a baseball game against the Kansas City Royals, Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, in Detroit. Craig Monroe was honored with Tigers' Willie Horton African American Legacy Award during a pregame ceremony.

MLB Sunday Leadoff's presentation of the Detroit Tigers' July 3 game against the Kansas City Royals will feature... no commentators in the television booth?

That's because in-game reporter Ahmed Fareed, Bally Sports Detroit analyst and former Tigers outfielder Craig Monroe and NBC Sports' Britney Eurton will host a unique broadcast on Peacock, NBC's streaming service taking fans in and around Comerica Park.

The game presentation features a stadium tour with multiple perspectives of the ballpark and field, plus enhanced audio and unique camera positions.

Conversations with Tigers super fans and other special guests, a focus on youth baseball and softball with a Little Leaguer announcing the starting lineups and celebration of the July 4th weekend will also be part of the program.

"This is another way to take you out to the ball game and give the fans a unique experience,” said Sam Flood, NBC Sports production executive producer and president, in a Monday announcement. “We’re going to be fans of the game, taking you to different parts of the ballpark and engaging in a way that fans watch the game in the stadium.”

MLB Sunday Leadoff debuted May 8, launching 18 consecutive weeks of NBC Sports-produced baseball. No other games are broadcast until 1:30 p.m. on Sundays, making MLB Sunday Leadoff the exclusive home of matinee baseball.

The Peacock broadcast of Tigers-Royals will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the MLB Sunday Leadoff pregame show featuring Fareed and Monroe, before a noon first pitch.

MLB Sunday Leadoff is also scheduled to air the Tigers' July 31 noon game at the Toronto Blue Jays. Steps for watching games on Peacock can be found here.
