MLB restores video highlight that edited out banners criticizing A's ownership

Until the Oakland A's officially make their planned move to Las Vegas, it could be a long and painful goodbye in the Bay Area.

A's fans made their displeasure known Friday night at the A's first home game since club officials entered into a purchase agreement for a stadium site near the Las Vegas Strip.

Several banners criticizing team officials could be seen draped over the outfield walls. However, an A's fan site noticed the banners were cropped out of a video highlight on the league's website of Ryan Noda home run vs. the Cincinnati Reds.

Jomboy Media shared simultaneous versions of the live broadcast clip and the MLB.com one.

Shortly after the video started gaining traction on social media on Saturday, MLB.com restored the original version.

"We were unaware of the edit," an MLB spokesperson told The Athletic. "When it came to our attention, we corrected it as it isn’t consistent with our policy."

The relationship between the A's and the city of Oakland has been a prolonged and rocky one as the team has been attempting for years to replace the aging Oakland Coliseum.

As team officials have traded away older, more expensive players and turned their attention to relocating, fan support has dwindled and the A's have posted the worst record in the majors (5-23 through Saturday).

Friday's attendance for the opener of a three-game series vs. the Reds – an 11-7 loss – drew an official attendance of 6,423.

The team's lease at the Coliseum expires at the end of next year. A new stadium in Las Vegas, if the deal goes through, wouldn't be ready until the 2027 season.
