Mississippi State softball eliminated from NCAA Tournament, Stanford Regional

Mississippi State softball was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a pair of losses Saturday.

As a No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional, the Bulldogs opened play Friday with a 1-0 win against No. 3 seed Cal State Fullerton. Mississippi State followed that with a 2-1 loss against host and No. 8 overall seed Stanford on Saturday.

The Bulldogs only managed three hits against Stanford starter NiJaree Canady who owns the nation’s best ERA (0.50).

In the second leg of a Saturday doubleheader, Mississippi State’s postseason run ended with a 7-0 loss in a rematch against Cal State Fullerton.

MSU again only had three hits. The game was scoreless going into the fifth before the Titans rallied for all seven of their runs in the bottom half of the frame.

The two losses ended what was a promising season for the Bulldogs. MSU won 12 conference games in the regular season – its most since 2012. This year also marked the first time Mississippi State finished .500 or better in SEC play since 2007.
