Challenge the Outdoors fishers score 10 fish on annual Lake Michigan trip

Challenge the Outdoors recently held its annual Lake Michigan fishing trip out of the port of Algoma.

It was an afternoon run and the weather was perfect. Some 12 CTO members took part in the event, so we had six people per boat.

This year, the boat I was on was owned and captained by Stuart Fenendael, Michigan Addiction Charters (920-784-3038), and was 50 feet in length.

On a boat that size, we all had plenty of room to move around. When we got to the spot Captain Stuart decided to fish, the throttles were pulled back and Stuart and his first mate started setting lines.

It didn’t take long and the first rod bucked and the reel started to sing as the line peeled out. After a considerable fight, a 20-pound-plus king salmon came to the net.

The action didn’t stop there as the afternoon had several other bites and two more kings and two rainbow trout were brought to the net.

We ended up with five fish on our boat with three of them being kings at or more than the 20-pound mark.

The second boat also had five fish for the afternoon, so all the fishermen were happy with their catch.

Challenge the Outdoors (CTO) sponsored its annual Lake Michigan fishing trip for members who wanted to go. Between the two boats, these CTO fishermen show the 10 fish they caught on their latest Lake Michigan fishing trip.

Fish were then cleaned and split up into packages. On this event, we split up the fish, so everyone at least gets a meal of fresh fish.

Photos were taken of the group and the fish, and we were all treated to some sub sandwiches, bottles of water and some cookies.

CTO provides these kinds of events for their members who have a disability. Go to ctoforme.org and check out all the activities they offer to their members.
