Leger helped steer Maritime to its first Skyline Conference championship, leading the Privateers in every race last fall – it was the first conference title for any Maritime women’s team. Leger finished third in the championship meet to earn first-team All-Skyline honors. She was named the conference runner of the week on Oct. 3 after placing fourth at the Penn State Abington Invitational. She also earned a place on the Skyline All-Sportsmanship team for a second time.

"I'm truly blessed to receive this award and be able to represent Maritime College," said Leger, who also previously swam for Maritime but no more.  "The women's cross country has been an outlet where I've built friendships and memories with my teammates and coaches.  Between rigorous classes, a good run and some laughs are what make the sport such a great gift.  Thank you to everyone involved in my journey thus far."

"Adelle exemplifies what it means to be a scholar-athlete through her dedication and leadership in academics, athletics and the Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program," head coach Ridge Robinson said. "Her involvement and influence on campus have set a positive example for our students and raised the standard for athletic/academic excellence here at Maritime.  We wish her the best as she pursues her goal of becoming a pilot at the Naval Aviation Schools Command in Pensacola, Florida, upon her graduation this spring."

All 20 winners of the SUNY Fall Scholar Athlete Awards will be eligible for the overall athlete of the year, one for men and one for women. Pine Bush graduate Maggie Goodenough, a sophomore volleyball player at SUNY Orange, was the only other local winner.

There are more than 14,000 student athletes competing at State University of New York institutions representing 53 colleges and universities at the levels of NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and National Junior College Athletic Association.
