Miles Russell experienced his first bit of adversity on Saturday in the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour's LECOM Suncoast Classic.

The 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach native bounced back like a seasoned professional.

Miles to go: Miles Russell has made a cut in a pro golf event. What are his options for the future?

Russell, who on Friday became the youngest player in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, doubled his first hole and then bogeyed Nos. 2 and 3 to get off to a 4-over start at the Lakewood National Commander Course. But after five pars in a row, he went back to the spectacular play he had shown in the first two rounds and with a 5-under stretch of seven holes, finished with a 70, his third under-par round of the week.

Russell is tied for 48th at 9-under-par 204, nine shots off the lead held by Patrick Cover. Russell played with Tain Lee and Billy Kennerly, who are both more than twice his age.

Russell got his first birdie of the day at the par-4 ninth hole, then made his third eagle of the tournament at the par-5 10th. He then birdied Nos. 14 and 15 and closed with three pars in a row.

He hit 10 of 13 fairways at the par-71 course and nine of 18 greens.

Russell also seems to be a good-luck charm: Kennerly made his first competitive hole-in-one, at the 160-yard par-3 15th hole.

Russell will tee off in the fourth round at 9:05 a.m., playing with KK Limbhasut of Thailand (who played college golf at Cal) and Quad Cummins, a former Oklahoma player. Russell is a bit closer in age to his fourth-round playing partners: Limbhasut and Cummins are 28, only 13 years older.

Russell gets a shout-out from another lefty -- Phil Mickelson

Russell's accomplishment is attracting attention, including social media props by another left-handed player, World Golf Hall of Fame member Phil Mickelson.

Kevin Prise, who covers the Korn Ferry Tour for pgatour.com, noted the juxtaposition of Russell being the youngest to make a Korn Ferry Tour cut a week after another First Coast resident, Vijay Singh of Ponte Vedra Beach, made the cut at the Masters at the age of 61.

And Shooter McGavin weighed in.
