Mikey Garcia eyeing titles in five weight classes, eventual bout with Errol Spence Jr.
Mikey Garcia is the WBC lightweight champion, as well as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He challenges Sergey Lipinets on Saturday in San Antonio in a bout televised on Showtime for the IBF super lightweight title.
If he wins, it will be his fourth title in four different weight classes.
In this interview, Garcia said he plans to chase a fifth weight-class title and will eventually go after a welterweight crowd. He has his eye on IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.’s title.
He needs to get past Lipinets first, and he says he has a good plan to do that. He also talks about his past, including his two-year holdout, which cost him more than $1 million in legal fees as well as lost purses, and why he’s punching harder now than ever.
