Midgets take fifth place at Bismarck Rotary tournament

Jan. 9—DICKINSON — At the Bismarck Rotary, the Dickinson Midgets showcased standout wrestling performances, securing fifth place out of 29 teams. This two-day event, starting Friday, Jan. 5, featured Dickinson as the second-highest North Dakota program.

The Glaser brothers, Gage and Jake, each earned second place, while Hugh Myer claimed third. The team also had several sixth and seventh-place finishers. Their tenacity, a reflection of the program's culture, earned them recognition as one of the Western Dakota Association's teams of the week.

Dickinson amassed 132 team points, edging out sixth-place West Fargo Sheyenne by 12.5 points and trailing bronze winner Aberdeen Central of South Dakota by 3 points.

Sophomore Jake Glaser clinched silver in the 114 weight class, with a record of 19-3 for the season. He won his initial matches by two pins and a technical fall before falling to Bismarck Legacy's Nicolas Enzminger.

Senior co-captain Gage Glaser, finishing as runner-up in the 133 weight class, began with a technical fall and continued his strong performance to reach the finals. He now holds a 19-4 season record.

Hugh Myer, a sophomore, took third in the 189 weight class after a tight 2-1 decision victory.

Seniors Colton King, Wyatt Turner, and Ethan Halvorson each secured sixth place in their respective weight classes. King's journey included two initial wins before facing tougher opponents, leaving him with a 17-7 record. Turner showed early promise but faced challenges in the semifinals and fifth-place match. Halvorson delivered a strong performance, ultimately facing defeat in his fifth-place matchup.

Senior co-captain Aidan Dahmus finished seventh in the 127 weight class, after a close match against Brayden Collins.

Despite individual setbacks, these challenges are part of their preparation for the postseason, strengthening their resolve and keeping them prominent among state rivals.

The Dickinson Midgets return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 9, hosting a triangular with Watford City and Mandan at 5 p.m.
